Wetherby Ramble

2019-08-18 10:30:00 2019-08-18 16:30:00 Europe/London Wetherby Ramble

This is a circular walk of just under eleven miles. From Wetherby we head to the Harland Way (former railway line) which we follow to the village of Spofforth. After breaking for lunch next to Spofforth Castle, we head across fields and along a bridleway to Sicklinghall, passing the christmas tree fields of Stockeld Park on the way. A short break in the village and then we wind our way along fields and through woodland to Linton. We carefully cross Wetherby golf course and then follow the river back to the meeting point.

The scenery is varied and the terrain is mostly flat. If you normally do shorter walks and are wanting to try a longer one, this might be a good one for you.

The walk leaders intend to go to The Cottage teashop next to the car park after the walk. If you prefer a pub there are options a short walk from the car park, and there is also the Wetherby Whaler very close by if you fancy fish and chips.

Starting Point

Meet next to the bandstand in the Wilderness Car Park in Wetherby (by the riverside). At the time of posting this walk on the website (May-19), parking is free. There are no toilets at the meeting point, the nearest ones are in the town centre. We aren’t planning to stop at them on the way so allow a bit of extra time before the walk if you need to…

Getting There

By car…If you would like to car share for this walk, please use the Take A Hike messageboard (www.takeahike.org.uk) or Take A Hike facebook page to post a message to say the area you wish to car share from and see if anyone can help. You could also use the walk page on MeetUp for this purpose if you are a MeetUp user.

By bus…It looks like there is the X99 from Leeds to Wetherby and the number 7 from Harrogate to Wetherby. Check wymetro.com for further details. Wetherby bus station is a five minute walk from the meeting point. We can meet you at the bus station on our way to the Harland Way if you let us know in advance that you are coming by bus.

Please bring plenty of water to keep you hydrated along the route.
