The maximum number of people on this walk will be 10, including the walk leaders.

There is ascent and descent throughout the walk so a good level of fitness is required.

There are two short sections where we will be walking on local roads.

Driving South on the M1:

DO NOT exit at Junction 37 which has a brown tourist sign for Wentworth Castle.

DO exit at Junction 36 which has a brown tourist sign for Elsecar Heritage Centre.

After you exit onto the sliproad turn left at the roundabout; it now gets a little bit confusing as there are several lanes to choose from, you need to be turning right but need to be in the left hand lane for Elsecar.

starting point
There are several car parks in Wentworth but the duration is limited to 3 hours. This seems to be a permanent arrangement. The car park and overflow parking in Elsecar was very busy when we did this walk on 19.09.20, but it was the afternoon when we reached Elsecar (we had parked on a back street in Wentworth). 20 Wentworth Rd, Elsecar, Barnsley S74 8EP Free parking.
