Stoodley Pike from Todmorden *** Cancelled ***

2020-05-03 10:30:00 2020-05-03 16:00:00 Europe/London Stoodley Pike from Todmorden *** Cancelled ***

This circular walk includes a hill, sections of the Pennine way, meadows, good views (hopefully), lots of moorland and some canal-side walking.

Much of the route is high up along open moorland which is very exposed, and almost always windy, including where we stop for a lunch break. Please bring warm clothing and waterproofs, and wear walking boots.

After leaving Todmorden along the canal, the route ascends Stoodley Pike via Lumbutts and Mankinholes. The climb is mainly gradual with a couple of steeper sections as we reach the top.

We aim to eat our packed lunches next to the monument at the top of the hill. There are steps within the monument which you can climb up. You might want to bring a torch as it is very dark inside.

The remainder of the walk has panoramic views before the short sharp descent into Todmorden.

Drinks afterwards at Wetherspoons opposite the train station (optional). There are also cafés in Todmorden which may be open.

Arriving By Train: The walk leaders will be making use of the free car park at New Pudsey station and catching the train from Leeds as it passes through there. Please note there are no toilets at Todmorden train station.

Arriving By Car: Parking can be found in Todmorden town centre. Parking very near the station is restricted. Allow extra time to find a suitable parking spot. The train station car park is for rail users only.

The walk leaders plan to catch the train which arrives at Todmorden at 1012. Please wait for us if the train is delayed!

We plan to take the walk register by using the Ramblers app. If you’re a Ramblers member it would speed things up if you could bring your membership card with you if possible,  as then we can simply scan your card to add you to the register.
