Stoodley Pike from Todmorden

2019-04-14 10:45:00 2019-04-14 16:00:00 Europe/London Stoodley Pike from Todmorden

This circular walk includes a hill, sections of the Pennine way, meadows, good views (on a clear day), moorland and canal-side walking.

Much of the route is high up along open moorland which is very exposed, including the lunch stop. Please bring warm clothing, waterproofs and walking boots. Denim should be avoided because it becomes very uncomfortable in wet/cold conditions.

After leaving Todmorden along the canal, the route ascends Stoodley Pike via Lumbutts and Mankinholes. The climb is mainly gradual with a couple of steeper sections.

We aim to eat our packed lunches next to the monument at the top of the hill. There are steps within the monument which you can climb up. You might want to bring a torch as it is very dark inside.

The remainder of the walk has fine views before the short sharp descent into Todmorden.

Arriving By Train: There is an hourly train service from Leeds. The walk leaders will be making use of the free car park at New Pudsey station and getting on the train there.

Arriving By Car: Parking can be found in Todmorden town centre. Todmorden train station car park is for rail users only.
