Pennine Journey - Settle to Horton in Ribblesdale *** Cancelled ***

2020-02-29 10:30:00 2020-02-29 14:30:00 Europe/London Pennine Journey - Settle to Horton in Ribblesdale *** Cancelled ***

Please accept my apologies, due to the forecast and weather warnings this weekend, I’ve taken the decision to cancel the walk. I plan to rearrange the walk for later in the spring when the weather has settled/more predictable.

The walk will follow the Pennine Journey long distance path from Settle to Horton in Ribblesdale.

The route from the station makes its way through the town and emerges onto limestone slopes before dropping down to Langcliffe. From here there is an ascent above a prominent limestone scar and then a descent on steps down the scar to Stainforth. An inviting grassed area by the stepping stones over Stainforth Beck makes an ideal lunch spot. Then the path heads across moorland and meets a rough track which joins a green lane with views of Penyghent before losing height gently on short cropped turf to meet a metalled lane. This in turn descends to the main valley road and into Horton in Ribblesdale to reach the Millennium Stone which marks the end of this stage.

A train from Leeds arrives at Settle for 10:21, I will wait for this train to arrive if it’s late. The return train from Horton in Ribblesdale leaves at 4:20pm. There will be drinks in the pub at Horton after the walk.

Walkers can also drive to Settle, park on street or in the public car parks and return to Settle by the same 4:20pm train.

Please check the weather and bring appropriate clothing and enough food and water.

The leader reserves the right to cancel the walk or modify the route dependent on conditions.
