THE WALK

We walk along the canal towpath to Tunnel End, then along Waters Road and over the packhorse bridge at Haigh Clough to take the moorland path up to Standedge trig point (which has views of Castleshaw reservoirs).

We continue along a moorland path past Redbrook, Black Moss and Swellands reservoirs.  The path along Blakely Clough leads to a waterfall which can be crossed when the water is low enough by stepping on the exposed stones (see Geograph photos).

The return to Marsden is on the Kirklees Way past Wessenden, Blakeley and Butterley reservoirs.

starting point
If travelling by train please check the relevant website for times. If driving, head for The Railway pub, 34 Station Road, Marsden, HD7 6DH. With the pub on your left the car park entrance is just before it on the right. There's a little bit of parking in front of the train station which is opposite the pub. The car park is very large.
