Knaresborough and Nidd Gorge

2021-05-09 14:45:00 2021-05-09 18:00:00 Europe/London Knaresborough and Nidd Gorge

The maximum number of people on this walk will be 12, including the walk leader.

This is a loop walk from Knaresborough, following the River Nidd through Nidd Gorge and returning via Harrogate Ringway. The scenery will include riverside woodland, fields and country lanes.

After the walk there will also be a chance to visit Knaresborough Castle grounds which offers expansive views down the river gorge over Knaresborough. This would be done in groups of 6 or less as an optional visit once we are back in Knaresborough.

It is recommended to bring sturdy walking footwear as the trail is uneven in places. The walk is generally suitable for dogs, however, certain sections pass near farmland so keep them on a lead at these points. Public toilets are available close to the walk start, at the entrance to Conyngham Car Park.

Outdoor venues:
Knaresborough venues and The Gardener's Arms towards Old Bilton offer outdoor seating with greenery, so we may include a midway or finishing stop for refreshments if the weather is dry and there is enough space to split into groups of less than 6.

Public transport:
The Northern trains service departs 1:36pm from Leeds Station and arrives 2:29pm at Knaresborough Station.

Trains back to Leeds are every 30mins from Knaresborough including 5:36pm, 6:06pm, 6:36pm onwards until 10pm. It is suggested to buy a flexible return ticket to allow for a midway or finishing refreshment stop or exploring Knaresborough afterwards.

If any walkers are travelling from York or elsewhere by train please contact the walk leader to confirm the best place to meet.
