A good level of fitness is required for this moorland walk. Please wear suitable footwear, bring waterproofs and spare clothing in case the weather is not favourable, and bring your own lunch.

We start by walking alongside the river, then begin our climb up Bleaklow. From Bleaklow Head we pass the Wain Stones on our way down to the Longdendale Trail. We return to the beginning along the disused railway.

There is a small parking area above the Woodhead Tunnels on the Longdendale Trail. Heading West on the A628, the turning is on the left hand side and can easily be missed. On the main road after this turning are two further parking areas which can be used, but you will need to take care when crossing the road.
