Take a Hike on the Dales Way
In 2018 Take a Hike walked the 84 mile Dales Way from Ilkley to Bowness on Windermere. We were very lucky to be joined by Dales Way creator Colin Speakman for two of our six stages.
We are delighted that two photos contributed by Take a Hike members Stephen Noble and Nicky Roberts feature in a recently published souvenir booklet ’50 years of the Dales Way’. These include the cover image featuring Take a Hike members with Colin Speakman.
Copies of the limited edition booklet are available to buy here: https://www.skyware.co.uk/50Years/50years.htm
The Dales Way association have organised a number of events to coincide with the Dales Way 50th Anniversary, including a re-enactment of the first public Dales Way walk. This walk, led by Colin Speakman, takes place on Sat 3rd August and covers the Ilkley to Bolton Abbey – full details available here: http://www.dalesway.org/50Years/50Years.htm
The anniversary walk is organised and led by the Dales Way Association and, whilst this isn’t part of the Ramblers Walks programme, Take a Hike members may be interested in taking part. If any Take a Hike members are attending and would be willing to assist the walk leader with road crossings etc. then please let Chris Grogan, Dales Way Association Secretary know: firstname.lastname@example.org
Other events are planned to mark the anniversary including an ultra-marathon taking in the full length of the Dales Way, and a less-energetic exhibition related to the Dales Way in Ilkley Manor House.
Many of our Take a Hike walks also take in stretches of the Dales Way, including the forthcoming Buckden Pike Walk: https://takeahike.org.uk/walk/buckden-pike-from-kettlewell-2/
