All Take A Hike members are invited to attend the AGM on Saturday 24th November 2018 at 2pm. It will be held in Bridget’s Bar at The Victoria Hotel, Great George Street, Leeds LS1 3DL.

The meeting is your opportunity to review the current position of the group and elect a committee for 2019. We hope as many of you as possible will be able to attend. The AGM is expected to last about an hour but could be a little longer if there is a lot of debate. It will be followed by a social (see below).

How you can help:

If you’d like to be more involved in the group, joining the committee is a great opportunity. All committee members retire from their positions at the AGM and are eligible for re-election if they wish to stand again. Committee roles are open to all members, with the exception of the technical post of Web Secretary which is appointed to a suitable candidate by the committee. As well as the officer roles, there is the post of Member Representative (of which there can be several), which is a great way of contributing and finding out more, without having any formal responsibilities. The committee generally meets 4-6 times a year.

Below is a summary of the committee roles for your information. The current committee members are generally intending to stand again for 2019, with the exception of the Social Secretary who, after two great years in post, would like to give someone else the opportunity to get involved. The role would suit someone who likes a good social and has ideas for future events. If you have organised events in the past that would be useful experience, but it’s not essential as the other committee members can help out. It could be possible for two people to share the role as a job-share if there’s another member you’d like to work together with.

If you would like to volunteer for the Social Secretary role or have an interest in standing for any other post including Member Rep, please contact Susan by e-mail confirming which role you are nominating yourself for by Wednesday 21st November 2018. If you have any questions about what is involved, please ask the current role holder or e-mail Susan secretary@takeahike.org.uk.

If there is a motion or a topic you wish to raise for discussion/consideration at the AGM please provide advance notice by e-mail to secretary@takeahike.org.uk by Wednesday 21st November 2018.

If you do not want to formally join the committee but would like to help by planning/leading a walk, organising a weekend away or hosting a social (which is how the group keeps going!), please talk to us if you need any support.

Committee Roles & Responsibilities:

General Secretary & Treasurer: Main responsibilities are arranging committee meetings and holding the purse-strings. First point of contact for matters regarding the group/feedback. Represents the group within the Ramblers organisation.

Membership Secretary: Receives membership updates from Central Office and ensures new or prospective members are given a warm welcome. Responsible for answering questions about membership and replying to queries from potential and existing members.

Walks Secretary: Co-ordinates the Walks Diary and the encouragement of members to lead walks. Checks walk information accuracy before approval. Represents the group within the Ramblers organisation.

Social Secretary: Co-ordinates the Social Calendar, keeping the Social Diary up to date and supporting everyone to get involved. Traditionally responsible for organising the summer and winter bashes.

Footpath Secretary: Keeps a watching brief on matters relating to rights of way in the area and is the point of contact for footpath issues. Collates information and reports problems affecting footpaths and rights of way. Represents the group within the Ramblers organisation.

Member Representative(s): An opportunity to provide input and feedback from a group member perspective, without any formal responsibilities. It is a good way to find out more about how the committee works and what is involved.

Social for AGM attendees:

After the meeting the gathering will transform into a TAH social. We have use of the room until 4.30pm. We will then move on to another pub or two and maybe go for some food. We may decide to book a restaurant in advance if we can get a feel for the level of interest prior to the event. If you would be interested in going for a curry at about 6pm please contact secretary@takeahike.org.uk
