The accommodation
================

Eskdale YHA has excellent TripAdvisor scores. It is set in 15 acres of
private grounds in the Western Lake District nestling amongst rugged
mountains, streams, rivers, woodlands, red squirrels, rare birds, stone
circles, Roman forts and cosy pubs with log fires.

What to expect
===========

Previous members really enjoyed the accommodation, walks and friendship.
Expect a fun but physically challenging 9 mile walk up England’s highest
mountain with 800m+ ascent, icy paths, some scree and scrambling but
nothing extreme. Try do a few Yorkshire Dales winter practice walks
first.

How much does it cost
=================

Cost is £24 which includes 2 nights accommodation and 2 led walks.
Places are limited. Email the host to grab a reservation. If you snooze
you lose.

FAQs – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
======
DIY & Day Visitor Options:-
It is more fun if you stay in the group accommodation but alternative
DIY accommodation is available.

What is included:-
Separate Male or Female bunk bed dorms for our sole use with 4 to 6
sharing per room.
Self-catering kitchen, dining areas and boot drying room.
Comfortable bed, duvet, pillow, sheets & heating.

What is not included:-
Breakfast, lunch, evening meals, towel & toiletries.

Winter walking risks:-
Some exposed high terrain areas may feel below -10C. Winter walking is
great fun if you come prepared, start early and finish before darkness
but there have been incidents of people arriving late, with
inappropriate clothing and health/fitness issues. Which spoilt the
enjoyment and safety for them and the whole group. Here are some hints
and tips to ensure we all have safe fun!

Essential Walking Kit:-
* Waterproof walking boots with ankle protection (not walking shoes)
* Waterproof jacket with hood and waterproof trousers (both are vital)
* Fully charged head LED torch
* Walking socks.
* Thick warm waterproof ski type gloves + extra gloves
* Trousers or leggings that will dry quickly (avoid jeans)
* A wicking base layer, fleece and down or shell jacket
* Remember that several thin layers will keep you warmer and drier than
one thick layer, and you can vary how many layers you wear during the
ascent and descent
* Minimum of 1.5L of water and/or Thermos hot drink
* Food, snacks and extra snacks
* Waterproof rucksack

Other recommended walking equipment:-
* Boot ice spikes (like Kahtoola microspikes £45) – strongly
recommended for winter hill walking
* Walking poles
* Hat, buff, neck scarfs, balaclavas and/or hair bands
* Sun glasses (even in winter) or snow goggles
* Whistle
* Gaiters for mud protection
* Handwarmer

Dogs and Children:-
* This event is not suitable for dogs or under 18s
